Your development

Throughout your career with BDO, you will participate in training and development programs to enable you to enhance your technical expertise and abilities and build your consulting, leadership and management skills. BDO will help you develop your commercial edge and learn essential advisory skills with our national training programs.

A significant part of BDO development is that most of the firm's professional staff complete the ICAA's Chartered Accountants' Program. We support our staff undertaking the CA program with training and additional workshop programs, mock exams, coaching and guidance, study leave and financial support for course fees.

We support post-graduate studies and are committed to partnering with staff to develop and grow their professional experience and skills.

Similarly, the BDO international network provides exceptional opportunities to travel, work, learn and play on an international secondment to a BDO office in one of more than 100 countries around the world. BDO staff benefit both professionally and personally from these opportunities.

BDO learning and development initiatives are designed to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours of partners and staff as appropriate throughout their career.

If you are just starting out in the world of accountancy BDO will focus on developing your strong foundation technical skills while supporting you to complete the CA Program. The focus following the completion of CA shifts to enhancing client relationship and leadership skills.

Planning for the future

The firm has created ‘learning maps’ to provide a map of training programs that will help employees develop the relevant knowledge and skills at the right time as they progress through their career at BDO.

Learning maps indicate both core and elective programs. Core programs are mandatory for each level and the elective programs are optional depending on the learning needs for certain roles or individuals.

Although our learning maps focus on formal learning programs, your real learning takes place in your workplace applying the skills and knowledge acquired through training. We encourage you to look for opportunities together with your manager or partner to identify ways to gain the experiences to help you become competent.
