BDO motor dealer salary survey 2009

The BDO motor dealer salary survey is considered to be a valuable resource in assisting dealers to manage their human resource (HR) function. BDO provides advice to motor dealers nationally in the areas of audit, tax, consulting and general accounting.

The last salary survey that BDO conducted was in 2007 during the Australian motor industry boom. Unemployment was at a 30 year low and competition for dealership staff was at an all time high. Fast forward two years and the global and domestic economy could not be more different. As a consequence, dealerships are constantly monitoring performance in order to remain competitive, and in some cases viable.

The salary survey was conducted across Queensland with over 25 dealerships participating. Salary data was reported for most dealership positions as listed on page five of the report. The Scope section of the report details how the information was collected and importantly the components of remuneration reported. We believe the survey offers the following benefits:

  • Better informed – with recent indicative market information you will be more informed and confident your remuneration plans are aligned with the market.
  • Increased productivity – where you can demonstrate to your employees that their remuneration is consistent with the market there is typically less staff turnover, better morale and increased levels of productivity.
  • Increased profitability – where you can increase productivity at more competitive rates, profitability is sure to increase.
