Executive remuneration and taxation issues can be disproportionately time consuming for shared services personnel and emotive for key decision makers. We strive to ensure that the burden is lifted from the shoulders of our business partners by avoiding a one size fits all approach.
In today's globally mobile environment, it is essential to your competitiveness to ensure that you are offering your executives the best package possible whilst minimising costs and exposure to taxation.
We specialise in providing advice on cost effective remuneration structuring as well as personal income tax and employment taxes for corporate executives, particularly expatriates. We also provide advice to individuals planning immigration and emigration activities, as well as advising companies in relation to salary packaging, fringe benefits tax, other employment taxes and equity based remuneration consulting.
Key business issues
- Are you worried that you are not providing the appropriate incentives to your staff to minimise your FBT exposure while maximising their benefits?
- Are you losing staff because other employers can better package their deals?
- Do you employ expatriates?
How we can help you?
BDO provides executive taxation advice in a number of ways including:
With a globally mobile labour force, many companies hire from overseas. In addition, many Australian employees are seconded overseas. Usually as part of the package, the seconding employer is required to fulfil all local tax obligations and, under a tax equalisation contract, required to pay the expatriate's personal taxes. Therefore, any tax saved goes to the employer. Our expatriate tax experts provide personal compliance and consulting advice to expatriate employees (usually under contract with the employer), including completing entry and exit interviews and assisting with the preparation of their annual tax returns.
Cost effective remuneration structuring
In order to manage executive and employee costs it is vital that remuneration structuring be considered in order to ensure that costs are managed and any available tax concessions are optimised.
Equity based remuneration consulting
Since the rule changes on 1 July 2009 we have done a great deal of work assisting our clients to meet their Employee Share Scheme reporting obligations and assist with the design and implementation of new Employee Share Schemes to ensure they continue to be effective.
Our executive taxation experts assist employers with their FBT compliance by reviewing their benefits, sending out questionnaires on benefits and completing and lodging the relevant FBT returns.
Employment taxes include FBT, State pay-roll taxes, the superannuation guarantee charge, and workers compensation. Our executive taxation experts advise on employment tax implications in relation to any employment package, and assist clients with any audit defence.
