BDO Australia has made a significant boost to its Corporate Finance team with the announcement that Andrew McFarlane will join the firm’s Sydney office as Partner at the start of March.

McFarlane spent 11 years with BDO working in London, New York, United Arab Emirates and Sydney before moving to Fairfax Media where he spent the past seven years, most recently as Senior Leader in Strategy and Corporate Development. In that role he was involved in acquisitions, divestments, mergers and demergers as well as strategy development across a large number of businesses.

Sebastian Stevens, Partner-in-Charge of BDO Sydney’s Advisory Group and leader of the Corporate Finance team, said Andrew’s appointment was a sign of confidence in the BDO Advisory team and its growth aspirations.

“Andrew’s arrival will certainly bolster the team. His skills complement those of our current line-up and his depth of experience in M&A transactions will help us strengthen our leading position in the mid-market,” Stevens said.

“Andrew is well known for establishing strong relationships and trust across organisations as well as building value in rapidly changing industries.

“At BDO he will drive mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions and provide client services in:

  • Acquisitions, divestments, mergers and demergers
  • Tntegration and separation assistance
  • Strategic advice.”

Grant Saxon, Office Managing Partner at BDO Sydney joined Stevens in welcoming McFarlane to the firm.

“There is growing demand for BDO’s advisory services and Andrew’s appointment solidifies our corporate finance go-to-market expertise,” Saxon said.

“There is a definite demand for our services across a range of sectors.  The growth is coming both from an upturn in transactions entered into by our existing clients; as well as new opportunities driven by BDO’s growing market presence in Sydney and nationally.”
