BDO has kicked off the new year with a key Partner hire – superannuation taxation expert Shayne Carter – who started with the firm in Sydney today.
Grant Saxon, BDO’s Sydney Managing Partner said the firm was bolstering its financial services credentials by bringing on Shayne, who is acknowledged as one of the market’s leading taxation advisers to the publicly offered superannuation market.
“With Shayne joining the team, BDO now has significant expertise across the expansive superannuation sector, including self-managed super funds (Mark Wilkinson), complex individual and corporate structures (Chris Balalovski) and now publicly offered funds (Shayne Carter),” Mr Saxon said.
“Australia's superannuation sector, which has been in existence for more than 25 years, is still a complex web to interpret.
“Shayne’s extensive knowledge of superannuation and related products spans three decades and allows him to assist with the rationalisation of legacy products, which continues to have a big impact on the market.
“Shayne has advised publicly offered superannuation funds on:
- taxation treatment of funds and benefits - particularly defined benefit arrangements
- insurance - at a fund and life office level
- pooled superannuation trusts and income streams.
Shayne commented: “I’m delighted to be joining BDO as it grows its capabilities to service publicly offered superannuation, corporate and high net worth clients in the superannuation space.”
Shayne was a Director at Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills for 20 years and most recently was a Principal at Deloitte (Business Tax).
Shayne lectures on superannuation at the University of Sydney Masters of Law/ Masters of Taxation course.
