• Single Touch Payroll Reporting (STPR)

A new standard for payroll reporting in Australia.

What is Single Touch Payroll Reporting (STPR)?

Single Touch Payroll Reporting (STPR) is the Australian Taxation Office’s (ATO’s) first whole-of-economy, big data initiative to collect real-time transaction and compliance information, creating significant changes for how businesses across the country report to and engage with regulators.

Under STPR, the ATO now collects payroll data in real time, which has helped improve compliance and transparency of information.

Phase 1:

  • 1 July 2018 for businesses that employ 20 or more people
  • 1 October 2019 for businesses that employ less than 20 people.

Phase 2:

  • 1 January 2022, but employers who provide additional Phase 2 reporting by 1 March 2022 will be deemed to have met the deadline
  • Individual software providers may have obtained a deferral – refer to provider.
