BDO in Adelaide’s Digital and Technology Advisory practice recently partnered with one of Australia and New Zealand’s leading boutique engineering firms.
With steady growth over 40 years of providing engineering solutions for highly complex infrastructure projects, the customer has become a large business and understands the need to prepare business systems appropriately to support continued growth.
Recognising the role technology can play in enabling growth, the customer partnered with BDO to develop a strategic roadmap to transform the technology capabilities of the business.
Leveraging a range of skills from specialists in Enterprise Architecture, Data, Integration, Cloud Infrastructure and Technical Advisory, BDO took a ‘people and process first’ approach to the transformation.
This involved working closely with the customer to develop a Business Capability Model, mapping the current and projected core capabilities and functions within their organisation and determining the key systems in place to support them.
Further workshops with key business stakeholders identified the current technology landscape and established a future state of how they would like to leverage technology to support key business capabilities.
From this understanding, BDO designed:
- An Enterprise Technology Blueprint, defining the technology and data capabilities required to meet future state needs identified by the business and establishing a Reference Architecture to guide future decision making for the use of/investment in technology
- A Transformation Roadmap, detailing a costed and scheduled plan to achieve the future state over the course of five years, mapped against value delivered to the business.
As a result of this partnership, the customer has a detailed program to transform the technology capabilities that underpin key business functions, a framework for guiding future technology investment decisions, and the scale and capacity necessary to achieve continued and sustained growth of the business.
