Peter Rowland and Capital Alliance

The business issue

The Peter Rowland catering business has grown to become one of Australia’s most successful, innovative and respected food and entertaining companies.

From humble beginnings in 1962, Peter Rowland became synonymous with hosting some of the nation's most lavish parties, luncheons and events, including the Melbourne Cup Carnival, World’s Longest Lunch and Australian Formula One Grand Prix.

Fast forward to 2016, and a sole focus on private catering, unprofitable deals, declining sales, cash-flow constraints and an “industry in turmoil” meant the business needed to think differently if it was to survive.

"The reason Peter Rowland is still here today is due to the introduction by BDO to Capital Alliance"

The solution

The introduction of the Capital Alliance Investment Group by BDO Partner, Gary Douglas, led to much-needed financial backing and a restructure in 2017.

We thought that it takes someone very special to see the commercial realities and the synergies between a real estate business and a hospitality business.” said Mohan Du, CEO of Capital Alliance Investment Group.

“There is a huge market nationally in Australia for the Peter Rowland business - there is an opportunity for us to take the business globally.”

The business is now rebuilding, rebranding and growing from strength to strength – securing commercial clients, and expanding into the Sydney catering market with the objective to roll out into more capital cities across Australia.

BDO’s Gary Douglas seeks to create lasting partnerships with clients by understanding what drives them and continuously investing in the relationship to best service their changing needs.

"He understood our DNA, he understood our business, he understood me."
