BDO announces appointment of Chief Operating Officer

BDO in Australia is pleased to announce that Cara Wennerbom has been promoted to the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Ms Wennerbom brings over 20 years of experience in professional services, most recently serving as the firm’s CFO where she led a range of initiatives focused on operational efficiency, growth and innovation.

As CFO, Cara managed BDO’s financial operations and performance from 2008 when BDO’s annual revenue was circa $50m and 20 partners to the current year of circa $400m and more than 250 partners.  In recent years she oversaw the financial integration of BDO Group Holdings as the firm moved towards its goal to become a single national entity.

In her new role, Ms Wennerbom will steer several change management initiatives across the firm as well as lead BDO’s operational strategy and implementation in Australia.

"We are proud to promote Cara to this important executive role," said Tony Schiffmann, Chief Executive Partner of BDO Australia.

"She has demonstrated impressive financial acumen and was instrumental in the success of delivering the complex financial integration of our Australian firm over the past few years.

“Cara’s thorough understanding of the entire firm, including the operational and strategic priorities, places her in a unique position to continue to evaluate our organisational performance and drive growth. Her focus on operational excellence and innovation will be critical as we continue to grow and evolve as a firm."

Ms Wennerbom commented on her promotion and expanded role as COO: "I am proud to be part of a firm that genuinely puts people first. Taking up the role of COO is an exciting opportunity for me and I am fortunate to work with such a talented and dedicated team," she said.

"I look forward to my continued involvement, albeit wearing a new hat, on the BDO executive team, building upon the firm's strong foundation and helping to drive its continued success.”

Ms Wennerbom holds a Bachelor of Business and a Masters of Professional Accounting degree from QUT, is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Cara is also a director on the Netball Queensland board.

BDO is currently recruiting for a replacement CFO and Ms Wennerbom will transition to her new role over the coming months.
