Project description
DSDILGP required support to lead a review of the Queensland conventions sector and develop a long -term strategy to guide government investment and facilitation in the sector. The purpose of the review was to establish an evidence base for government’s strategic approach to the sector and form a current understanding of it.
BDO's role
BDO was engaged by DSDILGP to provide Market Analysis Services of the Queensland convention sector. The market review sought to assess the needs of the convention sector, identify gaps in the current service delivery, impacts caused by future events and explored the opportunities and potential for future investment.
The main deliverables of the review included:
- Summary of sector and its characteristics
- Engage with stakeholders, e.g. local councils, state governments, regional economic development entities, owners and operators, and industry bodies
- Economic analysis to identify current and future demand as well as current and future supply
- Benchmarking analysis which entailed analysis of all state-owned convention centre to better understand the level of investment and ownership undertaken by the Queensland Government relative to other states
- Gap analysis to identify current gap that may exist in the sector and identify potential opportunities .
