Developing TAFE's infrastructure strategy for the future

Updated:
Industry:              Education
Client:                  Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT)
Project name:     TAFE Infrastructure Strategy

Project description

BDO assisted DESBT to develop a five-year TAFE Infrastructure Plan and a ten-year TAFE Infrastructure Strategy.

The TAFE Infrastructure Plan and Strategy were developed through extensive stakeholder engagement across fourteen TAFE campuses, located across every TAFE region. The stakeholder engagement process placed a focus on four critical key performance areas:

  • Setting the vision for TAFE and prioritising investments
  • Identifying the key investments required for TAFE’s Infrastructure
  • Maximising the social value of TAFE
  • Planning for the growth in vocational education and training (VET).

The feedback received through the extensive stakeholder engagement process was validated through a thorough economic and demographic analyses.

This involved a significant period of statewide stakeholder engagement, consulting with community members about what they demand from the TAFE sites sitting within their communities.

BDO's role

At the outset, our role involved engaging in preliminary discussions with the client or customer to understand their requirements, objectives, and expectations for the project. We establish a solid rapport with the client and maintain clear communication channels throughout the project's lifecycle.

Throughout the project, we undertook the central responsibility of project management, ensuring the execution of tasks according to the plan, monitoring progress, and addressing any arising issues or risks. Our role encompassed various functions, from client engagement and project planning to budgeting, partner negotiations with private and government sector partners, identification of appropriate accommodation, and drafting high-level Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs). Our consistent communication with all stakeholders informed them of project developments, aimed at facilitating the project's efficient and successful implementation.

Project outcomes

  • Understanding of the context in which Hydrogen projects are developed and commercialised
  • Demonstrated ability to provide program management services in the context of Hydrogen projects
