BDO's role
BDO were engaged to act on behalf of the Department of Tourism and Sport (formerly Department of Innovation, Tourism, Industry Development and the Commonwealth Games) to prepare the Initial Application for the Wangetti Trail to the Regional Growth Fund (RGF). Following this, the team prepared a complete Business Case for DTIS.
The team was engaged to manage the development of a Business Case for the Wangetti Trail, working closely with multiple State Government departments and external technical and environmental advisers. Throughout the process, BDO gained a meaningful understanding of the tourism market nationally and in Queensland, including the drivers behind it and the importance of this industry to the local economy.
BDO provided several components of the Business Case including:
- Strategic rationale
- Risk assessment
- Market and demand analysis, which included a thorough market sounding exercise with key industry experts, regional tourism organisations and potential accommodation operators
- Delivery model and transaction strategy assessment
- Economic analysis
- Financial and commercial analysis.
