BDO appoints new chief risk officer and chief people officer

BDO elevates governance and people to the centre of growth agenda with two c-suite promotions; CRO and CPO

BDO has announced two senior promotions to its c-suite leadership team today, elevating Willem Olivier to chief risk officer (CRO) and Kerry Atkinson to chief people officer (CPO).

The promotions come at a moment of momentum for the firm and reflects a focus on sustainable growth, confident governance and a people experience built for the future.

Recently passing his first 100 days milestone as chief executive partner, BDO’s David Garvey commented on the two most recent promotions.

“The CRO and CPO appointments strengthen two essential components of a forward-thinking professional services firm; trust and talent,” said Mr Garvey

“Strong governance and a strong people experience go hand in hand.

“As our firm grows, we will continue to lift the standards in how we manage risk and how we support and develop our people.”

BDO is building a formidable team.

Formerly ethics and monitoring leader, Willem Olivier has been promoted to chief risk officer and will be responsible for leading BDO’s quality and risk management to ensure effective governance, compliance, and decision‑useful risk reporting.

Kerry Atkinson as chief people officer will be responsible for the firm’s people strategy and operations.

These latest c-suite appointments build upon BDO’s operational leadership team including CIO (Tiffany Wong) and CCO (Nicole Aman) appointments announced late last year. Interestingly, BDO’s c-suite is predominantly female, with only the CRO and CEO being male; an uncommon position in professional services and a marker of the firm’s ambition to improve gender balance in senior leadership.

BDO leaders and partners are meeting in Perth this week to align on the firm’s strategic direction and leadership priorities.
