As Chief Executive Partner, Tony leads the partnership group in executing the strategic direction for BDO’s audit, tax and advisory services. He plays a key role in driving new business development and growth across the firm, focusing on the ongoing delivery of quality and value to clients. 

Tony is also dedicated to ensuring the firm retains its culture and common goal of being an employer of choice. He regularly speaks at high profile events and is active on issues relevant to the profession and public interest – both in Australia and globally.

While no longer maintaining a client base of his own, Tony plays a key advisory and relationship role with BDO’s clients. As a member of a number of advisory boards, Tony can provide advice and direction in relation to an organisation’s strategies and how best to achieve them.

Career overview

  • Partner: 1987 to current
    During his time in practice Tony advised many prominent groups with significant investments in Australia, particularly in the agribusiness sector. He served as resident director on many overseas companies and was a longstanding trusted adviser to many groups, providing non-resident investors with additional levels of assurance around their Australian investments. Many of these relationships continue to this day
  • Managing Partner, BDO in Brisbane: 1999 to August 2020
    Tony was appointed Managing Partner of the Brisbane firm in 1999. During this time he has guided the firm on a path of positive growth underpinned by a number of expansions, including into new services lines and geographical regions, such as the Sunshine Coast
  • BDO Australia National Board: 2000 to 2013
    During his time on the national board of BDO Tony played a key role in significantly improving and strengthening the financial position of the national network. The network’s current size and revenue illustrates its competitiveness and its position as a recognised challenger brand in the market
  • BDO Australia National Chairman: 2009 to 2013
    As National Chairman Tony was instrumental in expanding the reach of the BDO network within the Australian market. Under his leadership the network merged with Horwath in 2007 and with PKF’s East Coast Practice in 2012
  • Asia Pacific Board BDO International: 2007 to 2013
    As a Board Member on the Asia Pacific Board BDO International Tony played a key role in influencing the strategic practices of the BDO global network for the region. He worked closely with the BDO Global leadership team to ensure delivery of seamless service to the BDO global client base
  • BDO Global Board: 2013 to current
    Tony’s appointment to the BDO Global Board highlights his seniority within the international network and the importance of the Australian practice to the future of the BDO brand. He plays a key role in setting strategic policies and priorities for the network around the world and overseeing the work of the Global Leadership Team.

  • Chairperson, Queensland Museum Foundation: 2013 to current
    As a Trustee and Chairperson of Queensland Museum Foundation, Tony plays a pivotal role in ensuring the Foundation can continue to coordinate fundraising and development activities for the Queensland Museum Network. He is passionate about the valuable research, public outreach and engagement activities the Network undertakes, and uses his leadership and business experience to help garner further support.
  • Director, CCIQ: 2016 to current
    CCIQ's goal is to take care of the bigger picture for Queensland business, by creating an environment they can thrive in. As a Board Member, I play a role in helping drive the organisation's advocacy for reducing the administrative burden on business and improving the efficiency of their operations.
