Willem Olivier

Willem is a Partner in the Quality Management team at BDO in Australia. He is responsible for supporting the firm in all activities that relate to Independence, Conflicts of Interest and Ethics, Monitoring and Remediation, and Quality Risk Management.

Willem has extensive experience in the auditing and accounting profession, with both practical experience on a wide range of client engagements and in the technical field.

Key assignments

• Responsibility for the firm’s compliance with the applicable professional, regulatory and legal requirements as they relate to independence and ethics
• Assisting the Risk Committee in fulfilling its responsibilities, specifically relating to operational and service delivery risk management and compliance practices of the firm
• Developing and maintaining a standard suite of risk management policies, procedures and processes that are consistent with the requirements of the BDO Risk Management Manual and applied across the firm
• Overseeing and facilitate the governance of risk management across the firm’s client service divisions and shared services support functions
• Promoting a culture of risk awareness and consultation across the firm
• Responsibility for ensuring partners and staff are provided with appropriate technical resources, training and technical support relating to risk management, independence and ethics, and regulatory compliance activities
• Representing the firm on various regulatory groups in the profession, including engaging with policymakers on the latest risk management, ethical and regulatory developments
• Contributing to and influencing BDO Global risk and ethics initiatives.
