The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety webinars

In this series of webinars we share insights into the recommendations brought forward by the royal commission. A team from BDO was engaged by the Royal Commission into Aged Care as external experts to assess the profitability and viability of the Australian aged care sector.

in 2020, BDO also submitted a research paper to the Australian Department of Health, regarding the profitability and viability of the Australian Aged Care Industry. You can find the report on the Royal Commission website.

Fahim Khondaker, a Data Analytics and Insights Partner, who was part of the BDO team engaged by the commission; produced and delivered three webinars detailing the impact of the recommendations from the report. Find the webinars below.

Aged Care Royal Commission insights for industry - December 2020

Fahim Khondaker shares valuable insights from our detailed financial analysis of more than 800 approved aged care providers, our in-depth analysis of the sector's commercial and operating model, and our presentation at the Royal Commission’s hearing. We also share insights from our recent roundtable discussion with board members and executives of a number of leading aged care providers.

We identified an initial set of five focus areas which we believe will assist aged care providers in preparing for their response to the Royal Commission’s upcoming recommendations and take advantage of the opportunities that will be presented. These include:

  1. Financial reporting and disclosures - Greater transparency expectations
  2. Business operations - Understanding revenue and cost drivers
  3. Duty of care and quality of care - Greater governance and compliance
  4. Economic impact on the aged care commercial model
  5. Internal and external communication - Managing reputation and boosting trust.
