BDO Australia strengthens Adelaide tax capability with new partner appointment
BDO is pleased to announce the appointment of Matthew Fregona as a Corporate & International Tax Partner in its Adelaide office, further strengthening the firm’s tax advisory capabilities and supporting continued growth in the South Australian market.
Matthew joins BDO from Santos Limited and brings more than 15 years of experience across professional services and in-house tax functions.
He specialises in advising large corporates and mid-market businesses on complex tax matters, governance frameworks, and regulatory risk, with expertise in the energy and resources sector.
His experience spans corporate income tax advisory, indirect tax, tax governance, and regulatory engagement, as well as supporting organisations through ATO reviews and complex cross-border tax matters.
BDO Adelaide Office Managing Partner, Rudy Pieck, said Matthew’s extensive experience with ASX-listed companies and multinational groups, brings a strong commercial lens to technical tax advice.
“Matthew’s appointment reflects our continued investment in building a leading tax practice in Adelaide,” said Rudy.
“His significant experience gives him a unique perspective that will be highly valuable to our clients, particularly those operating in complex and highly regulated environments.”
Matthew is known for his practical, client-focused approach, developed through working both as an advisor and within an in-house tax function.
“Matthew’s strong connections within the Adelaide corporate market, along with his deep sector expertise in energy and resources, will further enhance our ability to support clients navigating increasingly complex tax and regulatory landscapes,” Rudy said.
“His appointment also strengthens our ability to deliver proactive, strategic advice that helps organisations manage risk while pursuing growth opportunities.” Matthew said he was drawn to BDO’s collaborative culture and growth ambitions. “BDO provides a strong platform to build meaningful client relationships while working in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment,” he said “I’m excited to contribute to the continued growth of the Adelaide tax practice and to work alongside highly respected partners across the firm, while helping clients navigate complex tax challenges with practical, commercially focused solutions.”
