BDO turns to agentic AI as Australian businesses face growing risk complexity

BDO Australia is introducing Fieldguide's AI-native platform for audit and advisory to its Risk Advisory practice, giving Australian organisations access to new technology designed to allow assurance teams to work faster, be more targeted and more responsive to emerging risks.

The Australian rollout builds on BDO’s global partnership with Fieldguide, bringing the technology into local internal audit and risk engagements. Fieldguide is an AI-native platform that uses specialised agents across the full engagement lifecycle, reducing time spent on manual processes and allowing risk professionals to focus more heavily on analysis and advice.

BDO Risk Advisory Leader, Luke Eason, said the Australian rollout came at a time when organisations were being challenged to leverage AI to provide greater assurance across a rapidly expanding risk landscape. “Boards and executives want greater visibility over risk, but the scope of what organisations need to monitor and assure is growing significantly,” Luke said.

“Cyber security, supply chains, third parties, regulatory obligations and the adoption of AI are creating new exposures as organisations are also being asked to demonstrate stronger governance and control.

Fieldguide will enable BDO teams to automate and accelerate labour-intensive components of engagements, including analysing documentation, performing testing and identifying areas requiring further investigation.

“For us, the opportunity is to combine AI capability with the experience and judgement of our people to deliver a better risk outcome for Australian organisations.”

“If technology can significantly reduce the time spent collecting, checking and processing information, our people can spend more time understanding where the issues are, why they matter and what clients should do about them,” Luke said.

The Australian rollout forms part of BDO’s global collaboration with Fieldguide to develop and deploy AI-enabled solutions across its Risk Advisory services. Luke said the adoption of Fieldguide also reflected a broader change underway across the risk profession: “All of our clients are being challenged by their leaders to show that they are innovating and embracing AI, it’s perfectly reasonable that BDO, as their advisers, are being asked to play our part.”

“Being part of the rapidly growing BDO global Fieldguide community will deliver significant benefits both to our clients and our people.”
