BDO Australia expands Business Services team: Acquires DBW Group

03 September 2020

BDO Australia, the fastest growing mid-tier professional services firm in the country, has acquired a boutique business services and financial planning advisory firm which will see two new Partners join BDO’s Sydney office along with an additional 11 staff members.

In announcing the acquisition of DBW Group, Grant Saxon, Managing Partner, BDO Sydney, said: “This is a very exciting development for BDO Australia which is perfectly aligned with our strategic direction.

“DBW Group has a strong and growing client base and by joining with BDO, these clients will gain access to BDO’s strong team of Audit, Tax and Advisory specialists.

“The acquisition comes at a time when we’ve also seen the formal integration of BDO’s Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane practices.

“We are proud to be growing in size whilst retaining our unique spirit of agility, maintaining our reputation as a responsive firm that reacts swiftly to the needs of our clients in an ever evolving economic landscape.”

Andres Reith, Partner in Charge of Business Services in Sydney added: “The disruption to the economy we’re seeing as a result of the COVID19 pandemic has seen increased demand from family businesses, corporate and private wealth and high-net-worth clients.

“The acquisition of DBW Group cements our position in these markets and allows BDO to be uniquely placed to attract and service a range of clients that are profitable, growing and going places.

“Businesses are finding it harder to survive and thrive in an environment that is impacted by technology changes, globalisation, regulation and the fallout of the pandemic. They are looking for trusted advisers who have the technical knowledge with a personal approach.

“BDO’s Business Services team provides advice across the entire lifecycle of a business, from incubation and start-up, through to generating investment and funding to achieve growth, followed by succession planning and on occasion exit.

The two Directors at DBW Group will move to BDO as Partners - Matthew Duggan and Elina McKerrell - they will be joined by 11 staff.

Commenting on the move, incoming Partner, Matthew Duggan said: “BDO has the right cultural fit for our team and a reputation for engaging proactively with clients to provide technical advice with practical solutions.

“The DBW team is looking forward to joining the fastest growing mid-tier firm in Australia. We bring a unique set of skills and experience which have been solidified in the family business, private wealth and High-Net-Worth sectors of the market.

“Joining a larger firm that encompasses a wider range of professional services, we will be in a much stronger position to find new growth opportunities for our existing clients.”
