The new $30 million Commercialisation Fund is now open under Australia’s Modern Manufacturing Strategy through the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre (AMGC).

This program seeks to fund projects that:

  • Commercialise new products and processes within the Australian manufacturing industry that fall between Technological Readiness Levels (TRLs) of six and nine (see table below)
  • Invest in Australian manufacturing projects that aim to transition a new product or process from the pilot/prototype stage to full commercial operations.

The intended outcomes of this program are to:

  • Increase the capability and competitiveness of Australian manufacturers under the six national manufacturing priorities
  • Increase productivity and create jobs in the Australian manufacturing industry.

The program itself is intended to fund later stage commercialisation activities rather than early-stage research based programs. However, while not mandatory, projects are still encouraged to include collaboration with research partners. Grants will be offered between $100,000 and $1 million, with a 1:1 contribution basis.

Eligible projects must sit within one of the six national manufacturing priorities. These priorities are:

  • Medical products
  • Food and beverage
  • Resources technology and critical minerals processing
  • Recycling and clean energy
  • Defence
  • Space.

Eligible applicants must:

  • Have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and Australian Company Number (ACN)
  • Be non-tax-exempt
  • Be registered for Goods & Services Tax (GST)
  • Have less than 200 employees
  • Demonstrate the project has at least three collaborators
  • Be an entity incorporated in Australia, including start-ups and a trading corporation, where your trading activities form a sufficiently significant portion of the corporation’s overall activities as to merit it being described as a trading corporation or are a substantial and not merely peripheral activity of the corporation.

Applications will close on 30 June 2022, or when available funding is exhausted if sooner. For further details on the AMGC Commercialisation Fund, please refer to the Guidance to Applicants.
