Water & Environment
EconSearch has experience in a wide range of water related projects. Several of these have involved the analysis of infrastructure projects such as the rehabilitation of the Loxton Irrigation District and construction of the Salt Interception Schemes at Bookpurnong in SA and Glen Villa in NSW.
Our water industry assignments have included several projects for Government focussing on water policy issues. These have included assessment of market based measures (e.g. buybacks and leasing arrangements) for water recovery for the River Murray and incentives to encourage on-farm investment and uptake of water use efficiency measures in SA.
Working with irrigators and other water industry stakeholders has been a characteristic of many of our water industry projects. An example was the volumetric conversion project for irrigators in the Mallee Prescribed Wells Area. This involved coordinating a process to achieve agreement from key stakeholders regarding the volumetric conversion for water licences, a process which ensured the protection of the water resource and met reasonable irrigator requirements.
Profiling the economic characteristics of irrigation activity in regions, undertaking non-market assessments (e.g. economic value of irrigation in urban green open space ) and developing decision support models for water resource management are also areas where EconSearch has considerable expertise and experience.
